A full time course load in college can be a bit intimidating. You know that it is going to take up a lot of your time and you will have to juggle a lot of work for many classes at once. Yet, you probably do not know what to expect from this type of program. If you have never studied full time, then you should prepare for your daily routines to be completely turned upside down.
The Art of Juggling
If you have never learned to juggle balls, you are about to learn! A full time course program in college is much like a juggler balancing on a unicycle and trying to keep all of their colorful balls up in the air. Most people have a lot more going on in their lives than just their schooling. For instance, you may have to balance any number of the following elements of your life:
* Spouse or significant other
* Children
* Work
* Care of other loved ones
* Hobbies
* Sports
* Friendships
* Family life
You could probably add to this with elements of your everyday world that will have to be juggled along with your schooling. In order to make it all work, you will have to cut out all responsibilities that are not absolutely necessary.
For instance, you may go out with your friends once every couple weeks rather than every other day. You might cut your hours down at work so you can spend more time at home with your children while going to school with a full time course load. If you get creative, you can cut down all areas of your life to the minimum so you have time to do it all. This is only short term...it won't be like this forever!
Rest and Relaxation
This is where many adult students struggle. In an effort to make a full time degree program work, they end up burning the night oil a bit too much and find themselves completely worn out. They are forced at some point to take some downtime, or they will be unable to complete their educational programs.
Learn from the experience of many other students! If you are balancing a lot of responsibilities along with a full time school schedule, make a point to work some time to relax into your schedule. You might decide to go for a walk every morning, or you may add in a Pilates class if there is a gym on campus or near your home. Just find a way to take some time away from the books and all other sources of stress.
One final thing you can expect while going to school with a full time course load is the opening of doors. You will find that your education brings opportunity long before you even graduate. This might come in the form of an internship that gives you some experience before graduating, or it might come in the form of knowledge that you can use to perform your personal life. Take advantage of those opportunities and you can enhance your resume and increase your chances of getting a job when you graduate.
