Whether you are involved in a tennis team, a chess club, a prayer group, or boy scouts, there is always something that is needed. You might need new tennis balls, chess boards, more Bibles, or new uniforms, whatever your group or team needs it usually costs money. It usually costs a lot of money. It usually cost a lot more money than you are your teammates want to spent. That is why having a booster club is such a good idea. You can raise money by doing different booster club fundraisers and grow together as a group at the same time. Before you start a booster club, you need to know how to start a booster club.
The first thing that the group needs to do is arrange a meeting. Everyone who is involved needs to be there. The first topic of the meeting should be about creating a leader for the booster club. This person needs to be well organized, creative, responsible, and outspoken. This person can be the coach of your team, a parent, or a member of the group. It does not matter who it is, as long as they have all of the qualities. Then the leader needs to talk to the group about what it is that the team needs. There are usually several different needs for the team and that is ok. If there is a list of seven needed purchases, the leader and the group needs to put them in order from most needed to least needed. As soon as the group has identified their needs in order, the leader can create committees.
These committees take on the responsibility for each need. For example if there are seven needs that your team has discussed, there should be seven committees. If there are not enough people for seven committees, the leader should create only a few committees for the first few needs. Then, as soon as the committees have finished with their projects or fundraisers than can move on to the next need. When the committees are formed, it is their job to create a fundraiser and perform it as best as they can.
Usually the entire team helps with a project or fundraiser, but it is the committee’s responsibility to organize them. As soon as the fundraiser or project is complete, the money is then given to the leader of the booster club and used where needed.
The fact of the matter is that booster clubs are often created solely for raising money for a team or organization that does not get adequate funding from their school or organization. In these days and times that means most sports teams and clubs and that is why booster club fundraising is so prevalent.
A booster club is a lot of hard work and organization. If you are learning how to start a booster club, you should visit local teams and clubs with successful booster clubs, and see how they do it. After all there are probably already successful booster clubs at your school right now.
