There are many Christian high schools in California for people seeking this type of education. Schools that represent almost every possible denomination can be found here. There are also schools that are called non denominational as well.

Some of the schools are preparatory schools for those who plan on attending a religious college or university. For many families, it is of utmost importance that their child be educated as thoroughly in the doctrines of their chosen religion. Some may be preparing their child for a two year religious mission to a foreign country as dictated by their faith. Other families may have a long tradition of leadership within the organization and seek to have their child continue it. Others just do not want their child to be influenced by other groups if possible.

Schools that are called non denominational are not associated with a particular variety of Christianity. They invite students from a variety of Christian groups to attend their school. One disclaimer for institutions of this type is that non denominational does not necessarily mean that they do not subscribe to the tenets of a particular faith. While some may conclude the term might allude to a more liberal, broad based look at religion, many of these are actually better aligned with fundamentalist churches, traditional Protestant beliefs or other ideas that may be generally associated with a specific subgroup. Parents should review all information about prospective school before enrolling in the school. They may find that the school is perfect for them. They can also find that there is something in the school policy or teaching style that they do not concur with.

Many parents like to send children to these schools for reasons other than religious choices. Unlike public schools, these institutions are not obligated to take every student they encounter. This means that gang members, trouble makers, bullies, or others who have undesirable behavior are not admitted. This cuts down on the time that teachers have to spend with discipline problems. They get to spend more time focusing on teaching and may provide a better quality experience.

A problem for some parents may be that they have a special needs child who cannot attend these types of schools. They may want to obtain religious training for their child but the school may not be equipped to handle these types of needs. Parents who find themselves in this situation may want to keep their child in a public school that has funds and resources for these children. Parents may be able to obtain weekend or evening coursework for their child to expand on religious education. Many of the Christian high schools in California have programs for parents and children with these needs.
