There are many reasons why children should attend a Christian high school. Many parents like the idea of having their child go to this type of school in order to emphasize religious training. The fact is that many families choose these types of schools for other reasons.
More than one community member in the state of California feels that public schools spend far too much time catering to special groups or interests. While they do not begrudge students in special education classes, they may not like how schools handle English learning for non English speakers. In San Diego County, at least one school district has a need to provide assistance to those who speak Bulgarian. While this is far from the only group who needs assistance, parents of English speaking students feel a little short changed when study is disrupted for their child because of these types of issues. For these families, pursuing a Christian high school diploma may be a better option.
Other schools may have teachers spending a lot of time with students with disciplinary problems. Because public schools have to allow anyone who comes to them, they sometimes have students whose disruptive behavior prevents other students from having a healthy environment to learn in. Students that use drugs, or are involved in gangs or act in violent ways toward others are often given multiple chances within public school systems. In contrast, private schools are not under this type of obligation unless these types of students are the kinds they specifically are designed to handle. Most Christian schools will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of behavior. These schools tend to focus on learning and do not have to put up with students who are disruptive.
Many parents like these ideas and have additional reasons of their own. If they have a child that is smaller than average, shy, timid or has been the target of bullying, they may feel a private school is a better choice. Instead of worrying about attacks of different kinds on their child, attention can be placed on thriving academically. Many children who were very stressed by attending public schools have found a true home in private schools.
Others know that many of the private high schools do more to prepare students for college. They may focus on studying what is needed to succeed in testing to get into a good school. The Christian high school may also provide more educational support for the type of coursework that is needed for college.
