A tutor is an individual who aids in the learning process or education of others. They do this in many ways and through many avenues. Tutors can work individually or be employed by a company that hires out tutors to interested parties. Different tutors specialize in different fields. There are mathematics tutors, English tutors, science tutors and many more others, each for their respective fields. The services of a tutor can be necessitated by a number of factors and depending on the factor, different avenues of finding a tutor can be sought.
Students may need tutors when they experience a sudden drop in their performance. It is however hard to justify this need because the performance of an individual can drop or a number of reasons. It may be a problem at home or other types of conflicts that are not related to academics at all. It takes a very keen tutor to discern this and make the necessary recommendations to the relevant parties. A tutor who has not gone through enough training will not understand the real reason why a child would experience such difficulties.
Some parents normally prefer home schooling for their children. When this is the case, the help of a tutor may be required. Home schooling requires the child to be really focused f they are to study adequately and perform well in their exams. Tutors prepare the lesson plans for such students and ensure that they are up to date with the standards in other educational institutions so that the child is not left lagging behind the rest of the children who go to school. The tutor is also responsible in giving the student homework and assignments just like in a regular school so that they can test mastery of what has been taught.
Students with physical or mental disability may need the help of tutors to help them keep up with the rest of the children. Such children can be very brilliant if only they are given the kind of aid that tutors provide. Also students who develop an aversion to school and school work are sometimes given peer tutors to assist them. Peers are used because such students may have no respect for authority and a better chance exists in letting them associate with their peers. Tutors are very important members in the education sector and care should be taken to find the right tutor for students in the event that they need one.
