Parents can choose Christian private schools as an alternative to public education. These types of schools have become more common and offer education to students from preschool age through college.

Many devout parents want to find a school for their child that teaches their religious values. Many of these schools are run by specific religious organizations such as one denomination. The Catholic Church has had parochial schools in place for primary, secondary and college students for a long time but some Protestant denominations also have a long history associated with education. The last few decades have provided more choices for religion in private schools with many having a non denominational approach. Many of these schools are part of so called mega churches that are associated with evangelical Christianity.

The reasons for choosing this type of school are varied. While many are seeking a religion oriented education for their child, there are other reasons as well. Some parents feel it is important to have their own moral values reinforced in schools especially when children are at critical ages like middle school. They may feel that students receive a better education than at a public school due to course curriculum that is offered such as Latin. Parents may be drawn to the types of classes the school offers as some of the schools focus on getting children into Christian private colleges.

While choosing these types of schools is sometimes a religious preference, there can be more practical reasons for choosing this type of education. Some parents work far from home and have long commuting times. By placing their child in a private school that is close to work, they can easily go to their childs school if the child becomes ill or they need to take them somewhere like the doctor or dentist. They also have the child with them when commuting so there is no gap in childcare that is particularly useful for younger children.

Parents also sometimes choose these schools if they perceive their local public school as undesirable for some reason. They may not want their children around what they believe to be negative influences if the school is in a high crime rate area or has some other unattractive feature. They may not like the fact that public schools have to take anyone and cannot eliminate children with discipline problems or negative character traits. These parents may feel that public schools spend more time trying to manage these types of students instead of focusing on education. Christian private schools are able to screen students more closely than public schools.
