Criteria for the recruitment of wind farm technicians
As a car requires regular maintenance, similar wind turbines need to be maintained and monitored on a regular basis. It is the responsibility of a wind energy technician to manage these energy jobs. These technicians are responsible for the inspection, installation, troubleshooting and repair of wind turbines along with the associated equipments, tasks and tools. All these are necessary for keeping the automated systems up and functioning.

It has been observed that people working as technicians in wind farms jobs have an average work span of roughly three years. Most of them are promoted after that period or reach saturation point.

Though traditional skills still matter when it comes to the recruitment of technicians at wind farms, recruiters also stress on the need for imbibing new skills. As far as the traditional skills are concerned, the incumbent needs to be fit enough for heavy lifting or for the sake of ladder climbing. The technician needs to be adept at electrical maintenance repair, safety certification, experience at using power tools and hand-operated tools, hydraulic repair and overall troubleshooting.

The technician should have a comprehensive understanding of turbine details, computer diagnostic systems, schematics, turbine designs and computer software. Technicians should have adequate knowledge of hydraulics, control systems, the power grids and mechanics.  The employment rate at the turbines depends on multiple factors. These include the period for which the turbine has been in operation, the number of turbines that are within the warranty period, and the addition of transition lines.

There is no doubt about the fact that the current economic scenario also has an impact on the hiring practices adopted in the renewable industry and the wind energy sector is no exception. It is necessary to train graduates and engineers as per the industry standards. It is necessary to prepare them for employment.
