Whether or not you've ever spoken a single word of another language, you can learn Spanish. Speaking a language for the first time may seem difficult, but anyone who makes a serious effort can learn how. When you think about it, you can probably think of many advantages to being able to speak another language. Learning a new language will help you if you travel outside of the country. It could also help you better communicate with the people you meet in your own community. If you only speak one language and want to learn another, Spanish is a very good choice. By following some guidelines, you can shorten your learning curve when it comes to speaking Spanish.

Find a good tutor, if possible. Learning from books and CD's is great, but a tutor will be able to help you out with things you might not be able to figure out on your own with a book or a CD. Of course, it's necessary for a language tutor to have fluency in the language they are teaching. A good tutor can teach you various dialects in the language of instruction.

Learning the local dialect of a place you may be visiting really will help you with interacting with people. What's important is that a tutor will help you to understand the casual use of certain words. Books/CD's usually only offer the formal teachings of language. However, you can learn slang from a tutor. Whenever you can, start to think in Spanish rather than your native language. You may find this hard at first, but you can gradually learn how to transform your thoughts into a new language. You will have to practice this, so don't be in a hurry. Everyone has a certain amount of "mental chatter" in their heads; when you notice this, think how the words would translate into Spanish. This is an ability you will improve at the more you practice it. You will get faster at the translation. Then, one day, you may suddenly realize you were thinking in Spanish on your own. Then, to improve your conversational skills, you'll want to practice speaking your thoughts out loud.

Immerse yourself in the language.

Do you live in a town or city that has a neighborhood where the predominant language is Spanish? Listening to fluent speakers talk is a great training device. You'll also find most people are all to willing to help others learn their language. You'll get practice using your new language the way it is meant to be spoken without having to travel far to do so!

You don't need to needlessly stress over learning any new language, such as Spanish. You may feel it's hard when you start, but with a little patience is gets easier. You can become fluent if you stay with it and use the hints and tricks.
