Astronomy, Health sciences, Anthropology, Geography, and Earth Sciences are only a few of the different fields of science. Help your children explore science for kids and you may find a renewed love of science as well!

Science for Kids Tips

- Ask Questions! Simply talking to your kids can help you gain insight into what type(s) of science they may in interested in. If you child loves talking about the solar system and stars, perhaps exploring Astronomy with them will be the best way to get them involved with science.

- Movies - Watching a science fiction or other movie about outer space can be a great way to spark science related discussions with your children. After you've finished watching the movie, ask your child questions like, "What was your favorite part of the movie?" "Do you think other life forms exist?" "What do you know about the other planets?" "What planet would you most like to visit?" Give your child paper and pencils, crayons, markers, paint, etc and ask them to create a picture of an alien, another planet, a spaceship, or stars.

- Reading Works! Encourage your children to utilize the internet for constructive learning (and more than just networking sites and chat). Challenge your child to read at least one science related article (from the internet, magazines, or books) a week. Ask them to share the article with you so that you can read it as well. After you have both read the article, discuss it in science for kids' terms. Ask your child what type of science the article was about. Ask if they agree or disagree with the article. Some great science magazines for kids are National Geographic Kids, Highlights, and Ranger Rick.

- Field Trips can be fun for the whole family. Try taking your children to the planetarium, aquarium, museum, or other science related facility. If there is a Children's Museum in your area, that could be a great place to start. And science for kids field trips don't have to be just about your children and science, they can be fun for the whole family. While on the field trip and even at home afterwards, be sure to ask your child plenty of questions and encourage them to ask you questions as well. If the place you have chosen for your field trip has staff available, (example: people who work with dolphin at the aquarium), try to get your child to ask the staff questions as well.

- Television for Learning - The TV doesn't have to be used solely for entertainment. Fortunately today there are many programs and even entire channels dedicated to education programming including science for kids shows!
