I have never been a very high maintenance kind of girl. But when I was preparing for my wedding, I knew it was time to get my eyebrows waxed, eyelash extensions applied, and more. The trouble came when I didn't know exactly where to go to find a great esthetician and ended up getting ripped off by a woman we'll call Joann.
Enter Cori. Cori was a fantastic, caring esthetician working out of a small salon in Orange County, California. She helped to correct the mistakes of Joann, who intentionally defrauded me, while also introducing me to quality esthetic work.
As a master esthetician, your ultimate goal is to leave your clients feeling beautiful, confident, and energized. You want to help them relax and find a kind of peace that exists nowhere else but inside of your spa. If applicable, you want to aid in healing their skin and cleansing their bodies.
But you also want to build lasting relationships to keep clients continually returning to you and your spa for all of their treatments. So, even if you are finished with school, keep studying and researching to brush up on the hottest services, the newest products, and the latest techniques.
After all, even a practiced pro can learn a thing or two just by checking out the competition or keeping in touch with other professionals that might be trying some new things in their spa. You should keep taking courses even after you receive your license to help with this as well.
Make plenty of room in your practice for honest feedback from clients. Feedback of all kinds will help you improve, so view customer comments as opportunities to grow and improve. Plus, clients will feel valued when you implement their suggestions and will feel more comfortable talking to you in the future.
Don't blindly recommend products simply for the sake of extra commission or increased sales for the salon or spa. Instead, do your own research and test each one yourself. Many companies will provide you with generous samples, enabling you to test things out at little or no cost to you.
As you do this, take notes on your reactions--both mental and physical. Was there itching or burning before you achieved the hoped-for results? By knowing these things, you can be truly honest with all of your clientele, and that will build more trust.
Being an esthetician is truly a privilege that permits you to truly help people. Your spa can be a haven for them if you work hard to cultivate your talents and build lasting relationships with all of your clients.
