If you're thinking about working in Japan, it would be easiest to be an English teacher. If you want to get other kinds of jobs, you need to be able to speak good Japanese. So, most people who come to Japan get a teaching job, but unfortunately many English teachers don't really enjoy their job, because teaching English is not what they really want to do. Now, a new style of learning English in Japan that has been growing rapidly might help you find a fun job in Japan, even if you can't speak Japanese!

Have you heard about "hobenglish"? It's the new popular way to learn English in Japan now. "Hobenglish" is a word made up of a combination of "hobby" and "English". As the word implies, students learn English while doing their hobbies, like yoga, photography, cooking, wine, dancing, aromatherapy etc.... and they speak only English during class. Many Japanese people go to English schools, but they usually get bored learning with textbooks and speaking in a classroom. "Hobenglish" gives them a great chance to learn English while having fun, and makes them eager to learn more!

The most popular form of "hobenglish" is a cooking class, where students learn foreign recipes. Cooking schools are popular among young Japanese girls, so a combination of learning cooking and speaking English, which is the other most popular thing to learn in Japan, seems very glamorous to them.

Learning English while cooking has become so popular that there's a TV program where a famous Japanese chef tries to learn English through cooking, by recipe books written in English and Japanese. There are also some other interesting styles of "hobenglish", like drawing, poetry, flowers, comedy etc... Some schools constantly provide new classes, so students can try a lot of new hobbies while learning English.

This new way of learning English in Japan allows anyone to have a fun teaching job. Even if you don't speak any Japanese, you can still get a job like "hobenglish" in a variety of different hobbies. If you have hobbies, Japanese people would love to learn English from you and enjoy your hobbies together. Even if you have a rare hobby, you can request that a school make a new class for you! It would be a great experience for you to be able to do what you enjoy doing, in a foreign country, and share your hobbies with people from a different culture. This way, you'll be able to get a much more enjoyable and rewarding experience out of your time in Japan.
