Sometimes the greatest choice an MBA program hopeful has to make is whether or not to take the GMAT or the GRE. The GMAT is the Graduate Management Admission Test, and the GRE is the Graduate Record Exam, which are standardized tests used to determine is the individual seeking a Masters in Business Administration degree is ready to begin the course of study.
It is good news that there are two tests to choose from when looking to enter an MBA program because the GMAT has been the bane of many business school hopefuls for decades. It got its start back in the 1950s and has been a tough admissions requirement for entrance for many students.

In the United States, the alternative to the GMAT is the GRE. The scores from this test are now being accepted at hundreds of U.S business schools and that included Harvard, NYU, Stanford, and Wharton. You will also find that there are several business schools located in Asia and Europe that also consider GRE scores for students searching for a way to enter MBA programs. Schools in the UK have been slow to follow suit with this entrance test for their MBA programs. The same is true for the EMBA educational programs.

During your search for the right business school for you, if you find that the GMAT as well as the GRE are accepted, which of these tests are you going to take?

The majority of MBA students are still opting to go with the GMAT. This remains true even though this one is considered by many to be the harder of the two tests. Out of the group of people surveyed by Kaplan Test Prep of 2010, 47 percent stated that they believed the GMAT to be more difficult to complete than the GRE. It was interesting that 10 percent believed that the GRE was more difficult and 29 percent could not decide between the two.

It may depend on where your strengths and weakness lie at to which test you will take for the entrance requirements for the MBA program of your choice. Some believe that the math section of the GRE is easier than that of the GMAT, but at the same time the verbal section of GRE focuses more on vocabulary, and the GMAT is tuned to reasoning and grammar.

If you desire to get your MBA program education from a foreign business school, you may wish to go with the GMAT since the scores form this one are more globally accepted. It seems that 1,500 institutions offering MBA programs accept the GMAT scores, while 450 accept scores from the GRE.

The preference still remains for the GMAT over the GRE scores so if you are going to be entering a MBA program you should check to see which one is accepted at the school you wish to attend.
